The God of Jacob

Psalm 46:7b

The God of Jacob is our fortress.

"God of Jacob is the name by which God refers to himself more often than any other name used in the Bible. That is worth a long pause. Of the three Patriarchs- Abraham and Isaac and Jacob- would you choose to align yourself with Jacob? The broken man who schemed and manipulated his way into his inheritance-the man who walked with a limp because he wrestled with God? Yet God calls himself the God of Jacob. He identifies himself as the God of broken people- like you and me.

All the compassion and mercy of the God of Jacob, the God of the broken people- it is He who is at our side."
